La Sardine

111 N. Carpenter St.
Chicago, IL 60607

Critic’s Notes

Such deals: Half-price wine on Mondays! Dollar oysters on Fridays! Tuesday’s bargain is best of all—any appetizer, entrée, and dessert for $33. Bistro standards such as brandade, tarte flambée, and poached salmon with leeks succeed, but more ambitious fare, such as rabbit ragoût on pappardelle, can disappoint. Presentations sometimes look slapdash, but the delicate Grand Marnier soufflé arrives camera-ready. All French wines.

Dishes We Liked

La brandade de morue ($10), tarte flambée Alsacienne ($8), le saumon poché ($22), Grand Marnier soufflé ($12)
