Le Bouchon

1958 N. Damen Ave.
Chicago, IL 60647

Critic’s Notes

In the wake of the tragic death of chef/owner Jean-Claude Poilevey last May, this cozy bistro has actually upped its game, paying tribute to the founder by producing some of its best fare in years Although the service still seems disinterested, the cooks’ skill with a saucepan will impress, whether it’s the thick soubise accompanying the hearty roast chicken or an excellent caper and brown butter sauce accompanying the trout with almonds. Stick to the tried-and-true apple tart for dessert.

Dishes We Liked

Housemade charcuterie ($20), roasted free-range chicken with spring onion and soubise ($25), Rushing Waters trout with almonds and green beans ($22), Jean- Claude apple tart with caramel and vanilla ice cream ($10)
