Chicago, IL

Critic’s Notes

A restaurant within spitting distance of an expressway off-ramp has no business being as homey as this North African gem, where the hum of happy diners drowns out any road noise. Make room for a bountiful tagine—such as the tender lamb Fez stewed with cinnamon and prunes—and piquant housemade merguez. Finish with a necessary cup of delicate mint tea. Cash only.
