When not at home helping his wife, Dulcie, raise their adorable twin toddlers and his 17-year-old son, Darnell Robinson splits his time between managing the door at The Shrine, the dance-focused nightclub at 21st Street and Wabash Avenue, and catering to Oak Street’s rich and famous in the cool luxury of the Jimmy Choo shoe boutique. Both jobs have given Robinson an appreciation for how clothing and style can amplify someone’s personality. “Fashion is something you buy,” he says. “Style separates you from everybody else when you walk out of your house.” Robinson—who favors polished wingtips, patterned socks, and tailored hats—describes his own style statement as “confident and fun.” His love of accessories even extends to his favorite hobby, taking his Harley-Davidson touring bike out for long trips. “Riding motorcyles is all about the gear,” he says. The next destination? Omaha, Nebraska, via I-80.
