One of the first New York socialites to successfully sally into fashion, Tory Burch has, in nearly four short years, landed in Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, and Oprah Winfrey’s heart. Her genius? Retooling classic American sportswear by adding vintage bohemian details—think Ralph Lauren meets the 1960s. And though Active Endeavors and other Chicago boutiques picked up her free-spirited prep a while ago, she will surely find a larger audience when her new stand-alone store opens on the Gold Coast at the end of October (it’s her tenth location nationwide). “I chose the location because it is a little off the beaten path,” says Burch, who will visit the store after it opens. “It’s surrounded by great shops, galleries, and restaurants, which give the neighborhood a unique energy.”

So far, Burch’s most notable creation is her trademark ballerina flat, and, as you’d expect, the boutique will stock plenty of them; for fall, they come in quilted leather (pictured; $225). In addition to flats, look for a black patent-leather version of the season’s dominant shoe trend: the ankle bootie ($350). Beyond footwear, the 2,400-square-foot Chicago store will devote plenty of space to boldly printed, elaborately detailed apparel, such as a sleek patent-leather trench coat ($1,995) and a sequined tunic minidress (pictured; $795)—both well-fitting and wearable. Pair them with luxe accessories, like a faux-croc tote ($495) from the holiday collection. Who knows? With Tory transcending, maybe there’s hope for Paris Hilton yet.
