Chicago Architecture Center

open house chicago

Have you ever walked past a building and thought, “I wish I could see what’s inside?” On October 19 and 20, you can—for free.

Open House Chicago (OHC) is your one opportunity each year to get a behind-the-scenes look at nearly 300 incredible sites of architectural, historical, and cultural significance in more than 30 neighborhoods. This two-day public architecture festival is hosted by the Chicago Architecture Center—the city’s newest museum, with two floors of fascinating exhibits, located at 111 E. Wacker.

There are a few ways to make the most of Open House Chicago 2019:

• Plan ahead with the online itinerary tool
Log in and access an online itinerary tool at openhousechicago.org. To save your favorite sites, just visit the site’s page and click the “add to itinerary” button. During OHC weekend, be sure to access the website on your mobile device, too—it will help you find sites near you while you’re out and about!

• Search sites by category
When you visit openhousechicago.org, you’ll be able to use more than 20 filters to decide which sites you want to visit. Browse by type of site, such as architecture offices or historic homes, or by features like skyline views or wheelchair accessibility.

• Become a Chicago Architecture Center member
Members receive a Priority Access Pass that lets them jump to the front of the line at the busiest sites. Members also get exclusive access to a handful of Members Only sites not open to anyone else, including the 360 CHICAGO Observation Deck and Soho House Chicago. Memberships start at $80 and include free admission to the Center, free tickets to 75-plus walking tours, an annual 50 percent discount on river cruise tickets and more. Visit architecture.org/membership to join today!
