We’re Nuts for Hazel

Since opening in 2001, Hazel (1902 W. Montrose Ave.; 773-769-2227, hazelchicago.com) has brought Chicagoans a stellar selection of jewelry, accessories, stationery, housewares, and candles. Now, a decade later, the boutique has spun off a second boutique, which sells clothing for men and women. “It seemed like a natural progression for what we have going on,” says Marissa Vanden Bout, the new shop’s manager of apparel, who helped the owner, Dave Vail, get things up-and-running. “There aren’t a lot of options for men and women’s clothing in Ravenswood, and we’re hoping to expand what’s already on Montrose.” Designed like its predecessor, Hazel Apparel (1926 W. Montrose Ave.; 773-904-7779) offers quality items from around the world at prices ranging from $18 for a basic tee to $200 for a dress. For spring, women’s wear includes a light blue and floral vintage-inspired sun dress by LA-based Many Belles Down ($56); a double-layered coral and black tunic with mesh insert by the Danish line Numph ($85); and an empire-waist dress with graphic design top by 2026 from France ($198). The men’s clothing includes a light jacket in ocean blue with white zipper by LA-based Life After Denim ($138) and a long-sleeve button down shirt in purple and black gingham by LA-based Civil Society ($74).
