Live country music and down-home barbecue within spitting distance of the Trump? Yeah, that happened. This weekend, River North went country for the first-annual Windy City Smokeout.

The three-day fest featured freshly smoked and just-grilled ’cue from local favorites Lillie’s Q, Bub City, and Smoque, along with Lone Star institution The Salt Lick and BBQ legend Myron Mixon.

Noticeably absent from the fest: craft beer. Although Friday’s crowd was dressed for the city (with the exception of a few fashionable cowboy hats), no one seemed shy about cracking open a Coors Light while taking in the sounds of country crooner Jerrod Niemann.
