What I’m Doing This Weekend

Up next in our series of weekend plans from notable, in-the-know locals—a.k.a. people we like: Chicago Alternative Comics Expo co-organizer Max Morris. The Chicago Alternative Comics Expo runs from Saturday, May 31 through Sunday, June 1.

“Friday, I’ll be at the Tony Millionaire signing. People might know him for his comics series, Maakies which runs in alternative newspapers. He also did the popular comic books series, Sock Monkey. I will also be heading to the Cartoon Network show Adventure Time panel. Three storyboard artists from the show will be talking about their work. I also plan on going to the Co-Prosperity Sphere in Bridgeport for a Lumpen comics issue release party.

“Saturday, doors open at 11 and at that point the show is on. We have 200 exhibitors from as far away as the UK and Mexico. A highlight: local comics artist Edie Fake will be on a panel about queer cartoonists. Our exhibitors will be burnt out, so we’ll be having an after party for them.

“Sunday, we open again at 11 a.m. and close out at 6 p.m. Liz Prince is going to be discussing the launch of her first YA book Tomboy in addition to so many other panels. I’m excited about all of it. It’s a great time to have an encounter with both local artists and international ones.” —As told to Tomi Obaro
