In June, Baderbräu Brewing Company’s taproom (2515 S. Wabash Ave., Bronzeville) will finally open to the public, but over the weekend, the team gave a sneak peek in the form of a bustling Sunday block party, with food trucks, a DJ, and free rein to check out the new space.

Partygoers munched on tacos from Aztec Dave’s and dessert from Ms. Tittle’s Cupcakes while sipping on various Baderbräu brews and hanging out in the two-room, second-floor taproom. Top beers included the acclaimed Chicago Pilsner, the hoppy Lawnmower Lager, and the refreshing Veloci-Radler (a tasty “beermosa” with a pleasant kumquat twist).

“We want to be the anchor of the South Side brewing scene,” Rob Sama, Baderbräu’s owner and head brewmaster, said. “When we started looking for a space for the brewery, it was important to me that it would be located on the South Side. I spent a lot of time here while I was studying at the University of Chicago, and I’m excited by the burgeoning commercial sweep in the South Loop right now.”

Until the facility finally opens, craft beer fans can find Baderbräu beers on draft at various bars and bottles of Lawnmower Lager at liquor stores throughout Chicago. Here’s what we saw when we stopped by.
