Monday, 8/12: Crosby’s Kitchen 3455 N. Southport Ave., 773-883-2525) turns one year old today, and it wants to celebrate with the whole family. The restaurant will treat children to a free cupcake and adults to a free glass of sparkling wine this evening.

Tuesday, 8/13: It’s the height of fruit season and City Tavern (1416 S. Michigan Ave., 312-663-1278) is knee deep in peaches. This week, the chef will hold a cooking class focused on pickled peach flatbread from 6 to 8 p.m. for $20. For the rest of the month, City Tavern will serve a peach-themed menu with items such as grilled peaches and cobbler.

Wednesday, 8/14: WBEZ’s Sound Opinions talk show is throwing its second annual End of Summer BBQ. The show’s hosts, Jim DeRogatis and Greg Kot, will be present at the event, as will barbecue and desserts from The Butcher & Larder, Smoque BBQ, Bang Bang Pie Shop, and Black Dog Gelato. Tickets are $40 and include food and drink. The event will be held on the WBEZ Navy Pier terrace starting at 6:30 p.m.

Wednesday, 8/14: Wood (3335 N. Halsted St., 773-935-9663) is taking advantage of the bounteous harvest season with its new farm dinner series. Every Wednesday in August, chef Ashlee Aubin will present a dinner menu with ingredients from different local farms. This week spotlights fresh products from Spence Farm in Fairbury, Illinois. The five-course dinners are served family style and cost $30 per person.

Thursday, 8/15: Spiaggia (980 N. Michigan Ave., 312-280-2750) is honoring the Italian beach holiday Ferragosto with a lakeside salmon bake. Guests will be treated to fancy fish dishes, Peroni beer, and alcoholic slushies. Tickets are $65; festivities kick off at 6 p.m. at Oak Street Beach (1001 N. Lakeshore Dr.), located in front of Spiaggia.

Thursday, 8/15: This week marks the 101st birthday of Julia Child. Fans can wish her bon anniversaire at Kiki’s Bistro (900 N. Franklin St., 312-335-5454), where they will be serving a menu of The French Chef’s favorite recipes through the end of August in honor of Julia Child Restaurant Week.

Sunday, 8/18: Municipal Bar + Dining Company (216 W. Ohio St., 312-834-3100) is also getting in on the end-of-summer action with a sand volleyball tournament and outdoor carnival. From noon to 10 p.m. the upscale sports bar will have games, snow cone machines, ice cream and other festivities in it’s adjacent parking lot. There will be a cash bar and barbecue from chef Jeff Arasi.
