Chef Tom Van Lente at Two has created a special suckling pig pulled pork sandwich for Two's birthday this week. 

Monday, 7/29 & Tuesday, 7/30: Double A (108 W. Kinzie St., 312-329-9555) hosts chef Patricio Sandoval (Mercadito) for a cooking demonstration. The $55 interactive dinner includes five courses. Sandoval will discuss grilling techniques and recipes such as making your own barbecue sauce, marinades, and guacamole. Double A will light the grills at 6:30 p.m. 

Wednesday, 7/31: In the spirit of summer, Mon Ami Gabi (260 Oakbrook Center, Oak Brook, 630-472-1900) is serving up a Picnic in Paris-themed dinner for $60. The seasonal, five-course meal will be served family style, and it includes dishes such as fried chicken, corn on the cob, and Key lime pie. The event starts at 6 p.m.

Thursday, 8/1: Two (1132 W. Grand Ave., 312-624-8363) celebrates its one-year anniversary this week. The American bistro will be serving half-price drafts and cocktails along with a $10 smoked suckling pig dish. Specials run through Sunday, August 4th.

Thursday, 8/1: The seventh annual COUNTRY Chef Challenge hits the Daley Plaza Farmers' Market (Washington and Dearborn streets)  at 11 a.m. This Iron Chef­–style competition challenges local chefs with an hour to shop the market and prepare a dish from the fresh ingredients they find. Competing chefs include Thai Dang (Embeya), Jared Van Camp (Old Town SocialNellcôte), and Beverly Kim Clark (Top Chef finalist). Event is free and open to the public.

Sunday, 8/4: Bread & Wine (3732 W. Irving Park Rd., 773-866-5266) is collaborating with Goose Island for brunch this coming weekend. The beer-pairing meal will run from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Bread & Wine; cost is $40.

Monday, 8/5: Get your tickets now for Ada St.’s (1664 N. Ada St., 773-697-7069) presentation of The Taming of the Shrew. The restaurant invites Evanston’s Shakespeare in the Park company to the city for a one-night dinner theatre event. Tickets are $60; curtain rises at 8:30 p.m.
