The developers of two South Loop condo high-rises less than two blocks apart struggled through 2008 as they tried to sell units in the buildings. Studio Stone Design is a great new resource for those who are working with a kitchen designer but can’t decide on what kind of stone they want—and also don’t want to drive out to a huge, faraway location to make their decision. This smaller outpost of Stone Design (a major Midwest supplier with a Glendale Heights–based warehouse that contains some 14,000 slabs) features 120 panels, ranging from granite to onyx, allowing customers an edited menu of options from which to choose. Concord Pl. (800-424-1332) in the former Casamonte space, 800-424-1332.

You can get ideas from samples at the store, but everything is available custom. The trims and details on these handmade linens blew me away. Shown here: Holland & Sherry pillows and C&C bedding.
