Here’s Where to Get Spruced Up for Lollapalooza

This Week’s Top Story

Goldplaited which began as a finishing salon in Lake View, recently opened a second outpost in River North (161 W. Illinois St.) Instead of offering washes and blowouts like many of its peers, the new salon focuses exclusively on dry hairstyles including braids or updos; makeup application is also offered.

For Lollapalooza weekend, staffers are armed and ready to give Grant Park-goers a little festival edge. One such style: braids tied up with edgy scarves, or decorated with jewelry pieces such as a single, spare earring.

Top Sales This Week

Michael Kors (900 N. Michigan Ave., michaelkors.com) is offering up to 70 percent off select items. Find a ruffled leather satchel (reduced from $298 to $156.45), pink leather sneakers with floral applique (reduced from $135 to $55.69), and an embroidered cotton shirtdress (reduced from $275 to $165).

At Coach (625 N. Michigan Ave., coach.com), sale pieces include leather sneakers with cherry patches (reduced from $295 to $147.50), Chelsea boots with embroidered prairie flowers (reduced from $395 to $197.50), and pebble-leather driver shoes that come in bright hues like Mandarin and Canary ($97.50 to $165).

Nordstrom’s (55 E. Grand Ave., shop.nordstrom.com) biggest sale of the year, its Anniversary Sale, is still running through August 5. The sale offers limited-time discounts on new merchandise for men, women, and children; beauty products and home goods are also on sale. Prices rise again on August 6.

Pop-Up

STATE Optical Co. (stateopticalco.com), a locally produced line of luxury eyewear, hosts a Lollapalooza-themed pop-up event on August 3. Starting at 10:30 a.m. at Joe’s Bar on Weed (940 W. Weed St.), the “Pre-Lollapalooza Hangover Brunch” will feature a pop-up shop selling sunglasses from the Chicago-based brand.

Health & Beauty

The local beauty brand Advanced Clinicals (advancedclinicals.com), which offers problem-solving skincare items for less than $30 a pop, has three new products out this summer. The Turmeric Oil ($18) calms redness in the skin; the Hemp Seed Oil Instant Hydration Cream ($15) fights dryness and dehydration in skin. Finally, the Aloe Vera Soothe + Recover Cream ($15) also fights dryness while improving the look of blotches and redness.
