Getting measured for a custom suit typically takes an hour—at least, and that’s just for the first fitting. At Alton Lane, a men’s clothier opening its first Chicago showroom on Saturday, the entire process is complete within a matter of seconds.
Using a 3D scanner with more than 30 sensors and 16 cameras, your measurements (160 of them) are taken on the spot. Your avatar is used to create a custom pattern, which accounts for your posture and other quirks that can affect fit.
Though it’s fast, you’ll probably want to stick around. The appointment-only showroom was designed to have a speakeasy feel, featuring a large screen TV, leather couches, and a bar stocked with complimentary drinks.
Alton Lane opens in Chicago on Saturday, May 31 at 49 East Oak Street, level 2. Appointments can be booked online (altonlane.com) or by calling 646-896-1212. Shirts start at $89, suits at $595.
