Even the soundtrack (classic-rock) sounds antique at this throwback corner storefront, where chef-partner Rick Ortiz delivers a modern Midwestern take on Mexican favorites. His chili and cheese curd plate nods to poutine with tempura-battered Wisconsin cheddar cheese curds in zippy chorizo chili; bacon, crispy kale, and local mushrooms show up in twists on traditional tacos, such as carnitas, steak, shrimp, and fish. Don’t overlook the excellent house salsas in squeeze bottles. Order at the counter, starting with a rosemary-infused margarita and finishing with a thick horchata milk shake.
