Cafe Ba-Ba-Reeba

2024 N. Halsted St.
Chicago, IL 60614

Goat cheese baked in tomato sauce, bacon-wrapped dates, and the like stuff the capacious menu of this early adopter of the tapas trend, having opened in 1985, which experience over the years has turned the restaurant into a fine machine, able to churn through high-volume crowds (in both senses of “volume”) with consistency. The flip side of this well-oiled operation lies in the narrow range of dish quality, with both a high floor and a low ceiling. But the overall goal is less to wow diners than to get them to have a good time, which paella and sangría (try the cava version) can’t fail to accomplish.
