John des Rosiers injects originality and a touch of class into his lighthearted small-plate menu, often served with an amusing backstory. His very first cooking gig provided inspiration for his sublime Cognac-infused chicken liver pâté; the homey, mushroomy shepherd’s pie comes with a bow to des Rosiers’s mother, who had it waiting for him after school. And bless whoever or whatever motivated him to come up with wild sockeye salmon stew in coconut-shrimp broth with baby potatoes and squashes. A sharp, energetic staff and convivial atmosphere add to the enjoyment.
