Yoshi's Café

3257 N. Halsted St.
Chicago, IL 60657

The vibe here—civilized, relaxed, hospitable—is a big part of this neighborhood stalwart’s allure. Upstarts, take note: Yoshi Katsumura has stayed in business for 30-plus years by being true to his instincts—rather than to fashion—for when to tweak something and when to leave it alone. Daily specials keep things interesting; soft-shell crab tempura with watermelon, grilled Caesar salad, and a terrific combination of barbecued short ribs and Korean-style skirt steak were three recent wows. On the regular menu, roasted Cornish game hen with a chocolate guajillo sauce never misses its mark. Well-priced wines.
