Dr. Mercola Versus the Medical Establishment

HE SAYS, THEY SAY: Five areas in which Mercola and the mainstream are at odds

THE SUN

MERCOLA: “One of the most persistent health myths circulating . . . is the dangers of sun exposure. . . . Unfortunately, this long-standing recommendation . . . has increased cancer deaths, not just nonfatal skin cancers, by more than 50,000 per year in the United States due to lowered vitamin D levels.”

THE MEDICAL ESTABLISHMENT: “Radiation [from the sun] can result in DNA damage that leads to skin cancer.” —Francesca Fusco, assistant clinical professor of dermatology at Mount Sinai School of Medicine

“Get vitamin D safely through a healthy diet that may include vitamin supplements.” —American Academy of Dermatology

VACCINES

MERCOLA: “There are virtually no safety studies done [on vaccines]. We don’t know what the effects of combining them are. We don’t know what the long-term complications are.”

THE MEDICAL ESTABLISHMENT: “The FDA requires testing to ensure safety. . . . If researchers find a vaccine may be causing a side effect, the CDC and FDA will initiate appropriate action that may include . . . revoking the vaccine’s license.” —Centers for Disease Control

DAIRY

MERCOLA: “Pasteurized milk has no important health benefits at all, and I do not recommend it to anyone. . . . Drinking raw milk produced by grass-fed cows from clean, well-run farms, however, is far less dangerous than drinking pasteurized milk.”

THE MEDICAL ESTABLISHMENT: “Raw milk can carry harmful bacteria and other germs that can make you very sick or kill you. . . . Many studies have shown that pasteurization does not significantly change the nutritional value of milk and dairy products.” —CDC

FLUORIDE

MERCOLA: “There are a vast number of scientific research studies confirming . . . that fluoride is . . . extremely detrimental to your body, your brain, and even to your teeth.”

THE MEDICAL ESTABLISHMENT: “The safety of fluoride in drinking water at levels recommended for preventing tooth decay has been affirmed by numerous scientific and professional groups.” —CDC

DIAGNOSTIC TOOLS

MERCOLA: “If you’re female, please don’t go the mammogram route. . . . They expose your body to radiation that can be 1,000 times greater than that from a chest x-ray. . . . The option for breast screening that I most highly recommend is called thermographic breast screening.”

THE MEDICAL ESTABLISHMENT: “Regular mammograms are the best tests doctors have to find breast cancer early.” —CDC

“Thermography is not a replacement for screening mammography.” —Food and Drug Administration

Dr. Mercola isn't alone in his opposition to fluoridation

Fluoridation Opposition is Scientific, Respectable & Growing

More than 4,000 professionals (including 331 dentists and 443 MD’s) urge that fluoridation be stopped citing scientific evidence that ingesting fluoride is ineffective at reducing tooth decay and has serious health risks. See statement: http://www.fluoridealert.org/professionals-statement.aspx

Eleven US EPA unions representing over 7000 environmental and public health professionals are calling for a moratorium on fluoridation.

The National Kidney Foundation withdrew their support of water fluoridation.
The CDC reports that 225 less communities adjusted for fluoride between 2006 and 2008. About 100 US and Canadian communities rejected fluoridation since 2008.

In Nebraska, 53 out of 66 towns voted not to fluoridate in 2008 and 2010, reports the PEW Foundation.

Tennessee, once 99% fluoridated, is now down in the low 90’s according to the American Dental Association News.

In 2011 the following US cities stopped fluoridation: Holmen and Grantsburg, Wisconsin; Welsh, Louisiana; Mechanicsville, Iowa; Hartland, Marcellus and Mt. Clemens, MI; Fairbanks and Palmer, Alaska; Spring Hill, Lawrenceburg & Hohenwald, TN; Philomath, OR; Pottstown, PA; College Station and Lago Vista, Texas ; Spencer, Indiana; Naples, NY; Pinellas County and Tarpon, FL; Amesbury, MA and Yellow Springs, Ohio . Many cities are considering stopping fluoridation including New York City

New York State communities which have already stopped or rejected fluoridation include: Elba, Levittown, Canton, Corning, Johnstown, Oneida, Carle Place, Rockland County, Suffolk County, Western Nassau County, Albany, Beacon, Poughkeepsie, Riverhead, Central Bridge Water District, Homer, Ithaca, Rouses Point and Amsterdam.

Students in Ireland are spearheading a campaign to stop fluoridation in the only country that mandates fluoridation country-wide.

The Council of Canadians, Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment and Great Lakes United in demanding an end to fluoridation

Prominent Hispanic Civil Rights Organization (League of United Latin American Citizens) votes to oppose fluoridation as a civil rights violation.

Prominent Civil Rights Leaders Oppose Fluoridation
Because fluoride can disproportionately harm poor citizens and black families (former UN Ambassador Andrew Young, Reverend Gerald Durley, PhD, Martin Luther Kings’s daughters Bernice and Alveda )

A bipartisan group of Tennessee House of Representatives asked the State Health Commissioner to stop promoting water fluoridation. Tennessee, once 99% fluoridated, is now down in the low 90’s according to the American Dental Association News.

30 years ago, when the campaign against sunshine and tanning was invented by some smart marketers in a large french cosmetic company, the sales of sun-protection cosmetics practically didn't exist.

Today, the same cosmetic company and its peers are selling sun-protection cosmetics for more than 30 billion US dollars worldwide every year.

But the sun is not more dangerous now than it was 30 years ago and, most unfortunately, the increased use of sun-protection cosmetics has done nothing to curb the incidences of skin-cancer.

Find out about the truth behind the sun-scare here:
