Will You Be My Friend?

Facebook faux pas are impossible to avoid—if you’re not 19.

By Jeff Ruby

When Facebook.com appeared on the cover of Newsweek in August, my 19-year-old babysitter, Kate, cringed. Seems she wasn’t too thrilled with the idea that she’d soon be sharing her longtime social hub with Old People who didn’t understand “the rules.” So I decided to open my own FB page, and let Kate annotate it to reveal my level of lameness. It wasn’t pretty—but at least I’m ahead of my boss, who recently asked how the “My Face” column was coming.
