Pizza: Nella Pizzeria Napoletana
Nella Grassano takes thin-crust pizzamaking to the next level
Thin-crust pizzamakers in Chicago keep taking it to the next level. On the heels of Great Lake’s coronation in the pages of GQ, and Parkers’ Restaurant & Bar in Downers Grove earning its coveted VPN membership from the Neapolitan pizza police, everyone’s expecting Nella Grassano (Spacca Napoli’s original pizzaiolo) to top them all. In mid-October, Grassano—a Naples native—will unveil Nella Pizzeria Napoletana, with its 1,200-degree wood-burning oven, and fulfill her birthright. “Her brothers are pizzamakers, her father’s a pizzamaker, her grandfather is a pizzamaker,” says Scott Harris (Mia Francesca), her partner. “She’s got recipes going way back.” Wow, talk about heat. 2423 N. Nellas on Clark St (near Fullerton) in Chgo. is a great place. Not just a "pizza" place. Ambience is nice, appetizers are very good, desserts are not to be missed(light, tasty). Head Chef, main man Massimo Salatino is the life blood of this great establishment, has been a part of the Chicago restaurant scene for years in New York and Chicago(Vivo's, Francescas).
