2011: The Year in Homicides

With the help of Geocommons and the city's data portal, a timelapse of the city's homicides (through December 11).
Update: The interface is a bit confusing; click "cumulative" and "play" to see the timelapse.

One note on the data from the police department: For delayed homicides, the data denotes the date of death, not the date of occurrence.
For example, a 49-year-old woman was stabbed on Halloween. She died on Nov. 5.
The death is listed on the data sheet as Nov. 5 even though the incident occurred Oct. 31.
