The Illinois Holocaust Museum went all in earlier this month for the opening of Activists and Icons: The Photographs of Steve Schapiro. The exhibition focuses on images from the civil rights era, including portraits of the likes of Jacqueline Kennedy and Muhammad Ali. Schapiro and Erik Gellman, Associate Professor of History at UNC-Chapel Hill, gave a talk that peppered the evening with historical perspective and unique insights into the photographer’s work.
