We're at the halfway mark now between when we got engaged and when we're getting married, with exactly three months to go until the wedding. Technically we haven't been dating a full year yet; that anniversary falls in the middle of July. We had thought our short history would prompt the most inquiry from friends and family, but, it turns out, everyone's first question is, "Where are you going to live?"—as if planning a big wedding in six months' time isn't enough to keep us occupied. Did I mention The Fiancé is simultaneously launching a new hot dog chain?...

Pete Wentz, of the band Fall Out Boy, welcomed his new bundle of joy to town on Tuesday night. Nope, not his baby—his new bride, Ashlee Simpson, is still in the bump stage—but his edgy new rock lounge, Angels & Kings (710 N. Clark St.), which Wentz co-owns with local nightlife vets Stephen Westman (Lakeview Broadcasting Company), Matt Eisler (Elm Street Liquors, Empire Liquors, Victory Liquors), and Lyle Aker (Five Star), among other investors (keep reading for more on that)...

I had my first wedding-dress fitting last week. The process itself is pretty routine—it's just a matter of trying on the dress before an initial round of alterations—but how I came to buy the dress is anything but. Not every bride-to-be has a wedding dress before she has a proper groom.
It all started back in February, when The Fiancé gave me a copy of the wedding magazine The Knot as a Valentine's Day gift. I'm not sure he knew exactly what he was getting into...

Celebrity Beat Chicago's Stephanie Izard, whose win on the hit Bravo series Top Chef aired last night, spent Tuesday pre-celebrating at Relax Lounge. She arrived at the West Town spot around 10:30 p.m. and stayed until close, sipping Grey Goose and tonics, and hanging out with friends including Dale Levitski, a runner-up from Top Chef's previous season and a regular Tuesday-night bartender at Relax...

Plenty of bars claim to be rock-'n'-roll inspired (Rockwell Lounge, we hardly knew ye), but come this summer, Chicago finally gets a spot with an actual rock star leading the charge.
Earlier this year at an Obama fundraiser hosted by Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz, Lakeview Broadcasting Company's Stephen Westman gave me the heads-up about Angels & Kings, a nightlife venture he's launching with pals Wentz and Matt Eisler (Elm Street Liquors, Empire Liquors, Victory Liquors). An opening date of sorts has finally been announced for the bar’s Chicago outpost...

It took some convincing, but I finally talked The Fiancé into cowriting a post about our road to the wedding—and yes, there was some begging involved. In all honesty, I had to stop and think about the idea, too. Handing over the blog means giving up control, which is not an easy thing to do. But these are modern times, my friends, and anyone with a laptop has a voice, so even The Fiancé deserves to be heard.
She Said: In several posts, I jokingly referred to myself as...

No surprise here: Thanks to females showing up en masse (see Estrogen Fest 2008), Carrie’s Manolos crushed Indy’s itty bitty crystal skull this weekend at the box office.
At AMC 600 North Michigan Avenue, former Illinois Film Office director Brenda Sexton, and her business partner, Suzie Glickman, hosted a private screening of Sex and the City on Friday night…with about 250 or so of their gal pals. (Take that, Dr. Jones.)...

Eight lessons I've learned so far about wedding blogging. And I haven't even picked out the cake yet. 1. If I continue writing about my wedding plans (check out these no-holds-barred comments), the haters may do the unthinkable, like throwing LGS over for Billy Dec's blog. (He must have one. Doesn't everyone?) 2. Readers want to hear from The Fiancé. Today after work, he's meeting my mom and me for the first of many florist appointments, this one with Richard Remiard...

There are two kinds of people in this world: those giddy with anticipation in advance of Friday's premiere of Sex and the City: The Movie and those who'd rather poke out their eyeballs with a six-inch stiletto than hear fictional sex columnist Carrie Bradshaw croon "Hellllloooo, lover" on the big screen. Everyone's in luck! There are plenty of things to do this week, some of which are all about Sex and others that have nothing to do with it. (No shocker here: I fall into the fan camp and have a SATC-themed girls' night out planned for Friday; more on that next Monday)...

After spending more than a month recuperating from knee surgery, I finally kicked the couch last weekend and hobbled back onto the scene—and I couldn't have picked a better spot to remind me just how much I love nightlife in Chicago: Rebar. You might have heard of it. It's that little joint from Trump and his kids in a building they're putting up along the river. Opened last month, the bar—whose name nods toward the more than 50,000 tons of rebar, or reinforced steel, used in the tower's construction—is gilded and sceney, with an over-the-top drink menu. In short, it's everything we want a Trump bar to be...
