Mid-century Decor in West Town

It’s a Mod, Mod, Mod World

The popularity of mid-century modernism seems on par with that of pizza and beachfront real estate. Everybody likes it, and demand drives up prices. But Angela Finney-Hoffman and Barkley Hoffman, the husband-and-wife owners of the West Town shop Post27 (1819 W. Grand Ave.; 312-829-6122), have infused affordability into the mix. The cavernous loft space is a beautiful backdrop for the vignettes, which are a mix of vintage furniture and new, eco-friendly home accents. Furniture includes a streamlined, reupholstered houndstooth sofa ($2,150), a sleek vinyl chair ($350), and a half-octagonal sofa with the original white rose print upholster (seems Grandma’s plastic covers do preserve fabric) from the late 1960s for $1,800. While there are items from big names like Herman Miller, the owners are not obsessed with the brand names if the furniture fits the style, which they say is a reason they can keep prices lower. Vintage accessories include globes and scientific diagrams from 1941 ($750, framed) while new accents (all eco-friendly) include pillows from the local company Unison, funky seating in the shape of an asterisk from the local team Roscoe Jackson, and sculptural bamboo mobiles (from $148).
