Weekend Photos: River Shannon at 65

Posted Aug 15, 2011 at 12:23 PM

Three sláintes for River Shannon, which celebrated its 65th birthday on Saturday, making it the city’s oldest Irish pub still in operation. Our photographer stopped by the following night for a peek at the Old Town tavern in its natural state—free popcorn and peanuts, cozy atmosphere, a trio of regulars taking shots of Tullamore Dew Irish whiskey at the bar—plus a tour of the pub’s memorabilia courtesy of a kind-hearted former owner who, like many of the spot’s usual suspects, keeps coming back.

About Seen on the Scene

Call it bar hopping by proxy: Each week we send our photographers into the thick of the action to capture the latest openings and the most buzzed-about events; then, on Mondays, we post the photos here, where you can view them without getting elbowed in the side or having a drink spilled down your pants. You’re welcome. And for those who do run into our photographers out and about, be sure to smile for the camera.
