Weekend Photos: Left Field Screening at Portage Theater

Posted Mar 2, 2009 at 01:17 PM

Question: What do you get when you screen a film about a Humboldt Park kickball league, shot in part in local bars, at the Portage Theater, the proud new owner of a liquor license? Answer: fire twirlers, a marching band, go-go dancers, and lots of drinking. We sent our photographer to the premiere of Left Field Thursday. Browse our photos below, then read more about the film’s gripping back story in this week’s Reader.

About Seen on the Scene

Call it bar hopping by proxy: Each week we send our photographers into the thick of the action to capture the latest openings and the most buzzed-about events; then, on Mondays, we post the photos here, where you can view them without getting elbowed in the side or having a drink spilled down your pants. You’re welcome. And for those who do run into our photographers out and about, be sure to smile for the camera.
