Weekend Photos: District Bar

Posted May 4, 2009 at 04:01 PM

Those who like a little mystery in their lives—besides wondering whether José Contreras will ever stop giving up runs—might want to make like our photographer and check out District Bar, the River North sports lounge that opened Saturday night with one not-so-well-kept secret: Head toward the bar’s library; locate a blue book by a classic American author; give it a tug; and—abracadabra—the bookshelf gives way to a hidden room just right for your enigma-loving posse. Or grab just about any seat in the bar and catch the game on one of the 42 TVs. Because why Contreras hasn’t been traded might be mystery enough.

About Seen on the Scene

Call it bar hopping by proxy: Each week we send our photographers into the thick of the action to capture the latest openings and the most buzzed-about events; then, on Mondays, we post the photos here, where you can view them without getting elbowed in the side or having a drink spilled down your pants. You’re welcome. And for those who do run into our photographers out and about, be sure to smile for the camera.
