Commons Club Is a Cool and Crowd-Pleasing Hotel Bar

It was a little quiet there on Saturday night, though.

Commons Club (Virgin Hotel, 203 N. Wabash Ave., Loop, 312-940-4747) was a little dead on Saturday night. Blame the weather, probably—the snow was really starting to fall. But don’t blame the space, which is all kinds of cool-looking. The massive bar/lounge/restaurant in the brand new Virgin Hotel is broken up into all kinds of nooks for groups of friends, visiting businesspeople, or really whoever wants to use them.

The main bar itself is not bound to any particular concept—the better to please all those different people stopping in—and the drink menu is accordingly varied. There are, however, a few winks to Chicago (say, the leather-infused Broad Shoulders) and a few gimmicky sippers (the Spaceboy topped with flakes of edible silver). There’s also crazy-good free wifi and tons of plugs for charging up as you imbibe.

Here’s what all we saw when we stopped in.
