Maria Pinto, the local fashion designer, is launching a new speaking series to be held at her M2057 Style Studio (833 W. Washington Blvd., m2057.com). With its first installment scheduled for June 5, the series will feature salon-style discussions of art, fashion, and more. For the first event, Petra Slinkard, the curator of costumes at the Chicago History Museum, will discuss 1920s fashion with Pinto. The event has a limited capacity. Top Sales This Week

The Great Parker Garage Sale will be held Saturday and Sunday at Francis W. Parker School (2333 N. Clark St.). The rummage sale offers deeply discounted designer clothing for men, women, and children; there will also be activewear from Lululemon and shoes and handbags from the likes of Christian Louboutin. Sales benefit the Francis W. Parker School’s scholarship fund. More details are available here.

The 11th annual Cheap Thrills Sale will take place at Emporium Logan Square (2363 N. Milwaukee Ave.) on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The sale offers men’s and women’s clothing and accessories from previous seasons at local boutiques. All merchandise will be marked down by at least 50 percent.

The Denim Lounge (2039 W. Roscoe St., thedenimlounge.com) will host its Roscoe Village Sidewalk Sale on Saturday. Jeans will be discounted up to 90 percent.

Scoop NYC (1009 N. Rush St., scoopnyc.com) will close in the next few weeks; staffers estimate it will stay open till around June 30. Until then, the entire store inventory has been marked down by 10 percent; outerwear is 30 percent off.

Curated by Dose, The Lake FX Market will be at Chicago Cultural Center (78 E. Washington St., cityofchicago.org) on Sunday. The event will showcase wares from more than 60 makers, including Le Coeur Watch Co. and YASOU natural skin care. Find complete details here.

Trunk Show

Throughout the weekend, Virtu (2035 N. Damen Ave., virtuchicago.com) will host a trunk show for Toronto-based line Anne Sportun Fine Jewellery. The complete collection, including the new Botanical Charm Collection, will be on display. Shoppers will get a 10 percent discount on merchandise throughout the trunk show’s run.

Health & Beauty

On Saturday, Lincoln Park’s Whole Foods Market (1550 N. Kingsbury St.) will host a Q&A with Shirley Pinkson, co-founder of W3LL PEOPLE (w3llpeople.com). The line specializes in all-natural beauty products that use ingredients such as organic chamomile, aloe, and green tea. The products are also newly available in 10 local stores.
