As an ensemble member with American Blues Theater and the current star of a one-man show about Hank Williams Sr. at Milwaukee Repertory Theater (through March 13th), Matthew Brumlow says he can’t yet choose a crowning moment in his career—though playing Hamlet was a highlight. “There’s something about being from a small town and coming that far,” he says. “You’re nervous as hell the first night, but you realize it’s been a long road and you deserve it. It’s like, ‘Yeah, I can f—ing play Hamlet,’ and I did.” But the tragic prince was only one role of many, and Brumlow’s chief source of pride has been “just working, being an actor in Chicago for 15 years.” When warmer weather rolls around, Brumlow says he’ll spend every moment he can on his Harley-Davidson motorcycle with his wife, Cora Vander Broek, also an actor. This summer, he and Cora will shoot an indie feature film in Texas.
