Carlisle is not new to the Chicago market (for a few years it was in a showroom on Wells St.) but it’s just relocated into a 1,773 square-foot space on the first floor of the Merchandise Mart in LuxeHome. The company, founded 46 years ago by a historic preservationist frustrated by the sterile monotony of modern wood flooring, works with sawmills that give Carlisle first pick of old-growth timber from sustainable forests. Every floor is milled to order; they’ll hand-scrape planks if you’re after that authentic 200-year-old farmhouse look. A reception open to the public takes place Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. Give ‘em a shout (800-595-9663) with your RSVP so they know how much wine to lay in, OK?
