Janet Davidsen of Details in Design in Wheaton recently won first place in a furniture design competition sponsored by the Grange showroom at the Merchandise Mart. Davidsen’s winning “Lizzie Chest” was inspired by the expansive Charles DeGaulle airport ceiling as well as by her sister, Elizabeth, who participates in the community-service organization Sunshine House that will benefit from the chest’s sale at auction after it is manufactured. As the Chicago winner of the “Colorful Exceptions Furniture Competition,” the chest will be made in the Grange Furniture factory in Lyon, France, before heading to New York’s Grange showroom to compete for the national title in December.
