If there was any doubt that Chicago’s reigning rock star of kitchen design is Mick De Giulio, his new book, Kitchen Centric (Balcony Press, $65), dispels it. Essentially a retrospective of his firm’s work (most of it in the Chicago area), this gorgeous, hulking coffee table number is filled with inspiring images and text from former Tribune interiors writer Karen Klages Grace. The lush photos (by Hedrich Blessing Photographers) show De Giulio’s classic, clean aesthetic. Floor plans for each of the 18 spaces shown help the reader get a better sense of the layout. De Giulio has clearly come along way since he learned woodworking at his father’s shop some 39 years ago.
