We’ve always admired the work of Designs for Dignity (you might remember our Chairs for Charity benefit last November), so when we hear about other Chicago home design biggies pitching in for the greater good, it’s always a treat. Case in point, Normandy Builders partnered this year with Habitat for Humanity. The remodeling giant has donated their amassed surplus of building materials, including new or near-mint windows, sinks, toilets, cabinets, and various fixtures and hardware, to Habitat’s ReStore outlet in Elgin. There, they will be sold to the public at hugely discounted prices, and all proceeds will help fund the Elgin Habitat for Humanity affiliate’s construction projects. Also among the donations for sale are full kitchens of upscale cabinetry and complete sets of appliances (think Sub-Zero refrigerators and Wolf ranges) from homes in the North Shore and western suburbs, as Normandy’s clients make room for renovations. The builders expect to continue making regular donations from now on. Here’s also a link to a Jan/Feb 2010 feature on a Normandy reno.
