I recently moved into a bigger place and have been on the hunt for cool used furniture to fill it with. But I don’t have much time to drive around the city looking at all of my favorite shops. I thought I was going to be stuck using Craigslist to find furniture online, but then I stumbled onto Furnishly. I couldn’t believe how much better it was—you can browse pretty images of all kinds of furniture for sale around the city and sort by price and type. Some of the furniture is for sale by individuals; others are for sale by local retailers such as Millionaire Rejects and Coyle & Herr. All of a sudden searching for an attractive bookcase under $500 became a whole lot easier. Furnishly started when Chicagoan Bryon Finke moved into a new condo. He felt the same way I did: That there was lots of great furniture in Chicago but no great way to browse for it online. So he came up with a solution and created the site. There are coffee tables made of reclaimed wood, mid-century modern dressers, and these Design Within Reach Saarinen tulip chairs. This isn’t where you’re going to find a crazy bargain—that’s still Craigslist’s domain—but it is where you’ll discover a to-die-for gold leaf étagère.
