Ukrainian Village is the lucky hood that’s home to the cutest new store, Paperish Mess (1955 W. Chicago Ave., 312-265-1497). Owners Lisa Muscato and Sean Murty, longtime sweethearts, wanted to open up a store where locals and artists could hang out and interact. And while the doors to the shop just opened, we’d say they’re already succeeding. The store has original artwork and handmade goods by more than 50 independent artists (most are in the $20 to $50 range). There are fun pillows from Hello, Sleepywhale, porcelain birch bark ceramic ware by Digit Design, and seed bombs by Garden Bon Bons, which look like fancy chocolates but are actually herbs and spices you can plant right in your garden. In addition to the storefront, Paperish Mess will also be hosting art exhibits, installations, workshops, film screenings, and community-centered events. Like I said, Ukrainian Village is one lucky hood.
