Pavilion

Ceramic oil cans from Pavilion
Ceramic oil cans by contemporary Dutch designer Aldo Bakker

In the past few years, this Bucktown shop (which once offered everything from antique mirrors and chandeliers to 18th-century French chairs) has become particularly well known for its wonderful selection of post-war design, primarily from France and Italy. The owners, both graduates of the School of the Art Institute’s M.F.A. program, have always brought a learned point of view to their work, and interior designers love them for it. Nowadays, their offerings include new design objects from around the world. Pavilion is becoming a source for artisan-made modern pieces—including works by local start-ups—that feel as special as the vintage objets that surround them.
