Auctions can be intimidating. Visions of well-heeled collectors getting into bidding wars over rare masterpieces and fears of losing one's own senses and blowing the family savings on a Warhol keep more than a few people away.

To assuage these anxieties, there is Wright's Mass Modern. Yes, an auction for the masses. What’s special about this annual affair? For starters, it’s no-reserve, making it accessible to many, with sale estimates starting as low as $100 and going up to $10,000. Also, it's lower-key: With a mix of pieces geared toward bargain hunters and high-end collectors alike, you don't have to feel embarassed bidding $75.

Previews are July 7-11 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1440 W. Hubbard St. and online. Peruse 550 lots of 20th century art and design by big names such as Alvar Aalto, Andy Warhol, and Charles and Ray Eames, and many unsigned pieces, described as “in the matter of Alvar Aalto” or simply “American.”

The auction itself takes place July 12 at 10 am.

Make a bid. And don't sweat it.
