Remember the name Ben Holiday. The 25-year-old architect with the local commercial firm Partners by Design recently won first prize in a rug-designing contest sponsored by Arzu, a local not-for-profit that employs Afghan women to make natural-fiber rugs. A four-by-six-foot version featuring Holiday’s winning design, Intertwined (above), will be available for $1,800 this summer at arzurugs.org, putting the young buck in good company: Zaha Hadid and Thomas Schoos are among the other designers represented in Arzu’s Hope by Designers collection.
