This Week’s Top Story

Contemporary furniture label Roche Bobois (222 W. Hubbard St., is divided into two yin-and-yang-like collections: Les Contemporains, which celebrates forward-thinking design, and Les Nouveaux Classiques, which focuses on stalwart styles that get an of-the-moment twist. Now, the spotlight is on the latter thanks to a new capsule collection by Christian Lacroix, a 56-year-old Paris-based label that has collaborated with designers like Jean Paul Gaultier, Sonia Rykiel, and Missoni.

“It’s very different than what we’ve done in the past,” says showroom manager and interior designer Brennan Bohman of the Maison Lacroix collection, which calls to mind an avant-garde, Alice in Wonderland-like aesthetic. “We want to always be surprising people.”

Of the 20 pieces in the collection (which boasts a double-sided, digital printed screen; stackable storage cubes; and colorful, zebra-like dining chairs), Bohman gravitates toward the upholstered armchair. “It has an interesting curve from every single angle, which is something you don’t [often] see,” he says. “They’ve played a lot of interest to the form of the chair—the profile of it—so that part is beautiful.” Plus, it comes in hundreds of fabric options from solid velvets to whimsical prints.

Though Nouveaux Classiques typically leans French, with gilded accents and curved silhouettes, “The Christian Lacroix set is like that [but] jazzed up,” Bohman says. “It has the fun, clean lines; it’s got the brass edging on the dining table. It’s different, but still livable.”
