Stacia Garriott Kass and her family had been going to Harbor Country for more than a decade when they saw a building for sale with an upstairs apartment in Sawyer, Michigan, right on Red Arrow Highway. Kass, who attended Harrington College of Design and once worked for decorator Alessandra Branca, thought she could finally buy a getaway home and realize her dream of owning a shop, too. She set about whipping the space into shape and—voilà!—Sojourn was born last summer. White walls and floors evoke the casualness of beach living, and Kass’s three kids and her dog can often be found wandering around. Most of the shop’s inventory is vintage modern, with a few new pieces and farmhouse primitives mixed in. “I collect things I love, and I love everything,” she says. This season, she is excited about powder-coated wire-frame seating from Bend, as well as Loll modern outdoor furniture. She represents some Chicago designers, including Strand Design, and tries to stock items shoppers can’t easily find elsewhere. Open Saturdays and Sundays until Memorial Day; Fridays, too, from Memorial Day through Labor Day weekend.
