Areté At Areté (6311 Roosevelt Rd., Berwyn, 708-749-4060), three like-minded craftsmen have joined forces in a workspace that doubles as a gallery. Jan Jander’s medium is concrete, from which he makes indoor and outdoor furniture, as well as lamps (janjanderad.com; shown here, his cube tables). Michael Russell works primarily with wood (livingedgestudio.com; shown right, his Jack table, made of cherry). Matthew Speer’s furniture line is called Matthew Paul (matthewpaulfurniture.com; shown far right, his Live-Edge screen, made of walnut and cherry).

Hejfina Showroom Fans of the furniture lines Carson Maddox, Ism, and Michael Koehler, all represented by Heiji Choy Black, owner of Wicker Park’s clothing and design boutique Hejfina, will be thrilled about the opening of Hejfina Showroom (1529 N. Milwaukee Ave., 773-772-0002), where the three lines will be featured prominently. Shown here, steel and oak shelving by Koehler, a walnut sideboard/dresser by Maddox, and a wool-upholstered walnut chair by Ism designer Andrew Kephart.

Lloyd Natof, the great-grandson of Frank Lloyd Wright, opened his West Loop studio, SL Natof (1217 W. Monroe St., 312-733-4205; slnatof.com) to the public. Shown here, his B/K console table, made of crotch mahogany and ebony.
