Early 20th century condo building in Lake View

LAKE VIEW
FROM $479,000
TO $1.525 million

“This is the way people used to live in apartments in the city,” says Brad Lippitz as he stands in the grand 500-square-foot living room of a condo in a four-story building at 443 West Aldine Avenue, a little west of Belmont Harbor. Lippitz, a real-estate agent, grew up just down the street from this place, albeit in an apartment that wasn’t quite as large as the 3,500-square-foot five-bedroom homes that occupy each of this building’s three upper floors. (There is a fourth, significantly smaller, condo on the ground floor priced at $479,000.)

The units were rentals in 2004 when Lippitz bought the building, which dates to 1925. In the past few years, he converted them to condos, updating the mechanical systems, kitchens, and baths and installing laundry hookups. But it’s what he left alone that gives these condos their old-line elegance: the oversize foyers, the narrow-plank flooring, the ten-foot ceilings, and the extensive crown, baseboard, and wall moldings in the formal rooms. Most units occupy a full floor and have windows on all four sides. Parking is available in the garage and outdoor spaces behind the building. All the units are ready for immediate occupancy.
