Cornerstone, a new Evanston development consisting of four townhouses and 15 condos, is nearing completion at 641-649 Custer Avenue—and already it is fitting in with its older neighbors. “I like that [Cornerstone] sort of disappears into the streetscape,” says Steven Lome, one of the principals in Eon Partners, which is developing the project. “We want it to have the size and scale of the Victorians in the neighborhood around it.”

Designed by the architecture firm of Nagle Hartray, Cornerstone employs several green features, including dual-flush toilets, rigid foam insulation between the walls, facilities for collecting and reusing rainwater, and insulated windows. Each parking space even has an electric outlet for the plug-in cars that might be available in the future. At presstime, four units had already been sold. Prices on the remaining homes start at $399,000 for a 1,425-square-foot condo with two bedrooms (and flex space for a third). The most expensive residence is a 2,370-square-foot townhouse with three bedrooms, a den, and two rooftop decks that is priced at $624,900.
