Chicago’s beloved performance collective Goat Island last took the stage in 2008. But 2011 brings several spinoffs, including an ambitious alumni performance piece in March at the Hyde Park Art Center. The Precession is a digital art collaboration between core Goat Islanders Mark Jeffery and Judd Morrissey, who combine web-based texts and local Twitter feeds with real-time projections of the night sky’s constellations and Google Earth satellite images. But it’s the live dancing March 4th through 6th that will truly “pull the concepts from virtual space into the physical realm,” explains Morrissey, a Warhol-award-winning pioneer of digital writing practice. That weekend, he and Jeffery will direct dancers and a choir in a piece that interacts with the digital projections. A closing ceremony on March 20th, coinciding with the spring equinox, will, fittingly, highlight current HPAC exhibits. For info, visit hydeparkart.org.
