The Hull-House Museum had me take a contemporary look at where the Conservative Vice Lords had their base in North Lawndale. It was the summer of 2012, which was a violent summer in Chicago. I was aware that the area had a bad reputation. I wanted to go in with fresh eyes and show that it’s a more complex neighborhood than was depicted in the news.
