Mamie Gummer, Meryl Streep’s oldest daughter, studied theatre at Northwestern before nabbing the title role in the CW’s Emily Owens, M.D. The 2005 grad ranks Steppenwolf high among her influences: “They brought home the concept of cooperating for the sake of telling the right stories.” Tuesdays; starts Oct. 16

Lamorne Morris was born and raised on the South Side and trained at Second City before breaking out as straight man Winston on Fox’s hit comedy New Girl (see “Reality (TV) Check on Millennials”). On Second City: “It’s where a lot of the legends come from. Even just watching shows there you can learn a lot.”

Jessy Schram had a resumé full of guest spots until she was cast as Scott Speedman’s wife on ABC’s Last Resort. The Buffalo Grove native says she learned to entertain here in the Joan Baby Soul Band. “We played street fests. It’s how I learned the city.” Thursdays; starts Sept. 27
