The Buzz Bin

Brigid Murphy made her first strike as a designer when she refurbished her father-in-law’s Sears, Roebuck bowling bag. Since then, she’s been rescuing vintage cases—of late, her favorite shape comes from doctor kits circa the 1950s. She meticulously restores each find and hand-stitches new linings; her results are Prada-esque. “You will never run into someone carrying your bag,” says Murphy, a performance artist and musician who starred for 17 years in Chicago’s vaudeville-inspired Milly’s Orchid Show.
